Nova Scotia Gaming is reminding adults about the importance of gambling literacy. The Crown corporation responsible for the conduct and management of the regulated gaming industry is sharing this message through its 19th annual Responsible Gambling Awareness Week in Nova Scotia this week.

Nova Scotia Gaming Corporation (NSGC) delivers 100 per cent of gaming profits to the Province of Nova Scotia annually. In 2019-20, the payment totaled $136.5 million.

As the holiday season approaches, lottery products will be enclosed in greeting cards and stuffed in stockings. Nova Scotia Gaming Corporation would like to remind all adults how important it is that lottery tickets are not gifted to minors. Although lottery products, like scratch tickets or break open games, might seem like an innocent gift, early gambling experiences are a risk factor for later problem gambling.

Profits from the Nova Scotia Gaming Corporation, which are used to help fund public services, like health care, education sport and culture, increased this year.

Lottery tickets are go-to stocking stuffers for many Nova Scotians during the holidays, but parents, caregivers, family members and friends are reminded not to gift lottery tickets or encourage lottery play with minors.

Responsible Gambling Awareness Week runs from October 1-7.

Profits from the province’s regulated gaming industry increased 1.6 per cent in 2017-18 over the last fiscal year, providing funding to support important programs for Nova Scotians.
