Seniors Week
Seniors Week 2025: Celebrating Aging Well.
About Seniors Week
Seniors Week in Nova Scotia will be celebrated 2 to 9 October 2025. In keeping with the theme of Celebrating Aging Well, Seniors Week is a time to recognize the contributions seniors have made to Nova Scotian communities and showcase the journey of aging well.
Events
The feature event for Seniors Week 2025 will be a discussion on aging with popular local author, Lesley Crewe. In this question-and-answer session, Lesley will reflect on her own experience with aging and will also discuss the development of some of her characters who have encountered their own "coming of age" journeys at various times in their lives. While books will not be sold at this event, feel free to bring your favourite copy of one of Lesley's books for her to sign. This free event will be held at the Keshen Goodman Public Library on Friday, 3 October at 2:00pm and is a partnership event between the Nova Scotia Provincial Library and Seniors and Long-Term Care.

Seniors Week Reading List
The Nova Scotia Provincial Library has created reading lists that reflect this year's theme: Celebrating Aging Well. These titles highlight the experiences and contributions of older adults and invite readers to think about aging in a positive way.
Nova Scotians can access the reading list through their local public libraries:
A community toolkit has been developed to support local organizations wishing to host events. Some event suggestions include:
- an organized walk, ending at a common location for coffee/tea and conversation
- engaging a local speaker on a relevant topic; ask the local library or community hub if they have an available meeting space
- a book club discussion (the book could be written by a local senior author or on a topic relevant to aging well)
- show a movie or video presentation on a topic of aging well
Community toolkit
To support community participation, access the community toolkit resources:
- Fillable Posters – Print off these posters to advertise your organization’s events. Use the white bar to provide important details.
- Accessible Meeting Guides – Over 30% of Nova Scotians are living with a disability. These guides will show you how to plan an event so that people with a variety of abilities will be able to participate.
- Social Media Graphic – This graphic can be used to share events or stories on your organization’s social media platforms.
Milestones
You can request a certificate to celebrate special events like significant birthdays, anniversaries, retirements and volunteer service from the Premier of Nova Scotia, the Lieutenant Governor, your local MLA and others. Visit this website for more information on requesting a celebratory message.
