Seniors Week

Seniors Week 2025: Celebrating Aging Well.

About Seniors Week

Seniors Week in Nova Scotia will be celebrated 2 to 9 October 2025. In keeping with the theme of Celebrating Aging Well, Seniors Week is a time to recognize the contributions seniors have made to Nova Scotian communities and showcase the journey of aging well.

Events

The feature event for Seniors Week 2025 will be a discussion on aging with popular local author, Lesley Crewe. In this question-and-answer session, Lesley will reflect on her own experience with aging and will also discuss the development of some of her characters who have encountered their own "coming of age" journeys at various times in their lives. While books will not be sold at this event, feel free to bring your favourite copy of one of Lesley's books for her to sign. This free event will be held at the Keshen Goodman Public Library on Friday, 3 October at 2:00pm and is a partnership event between the Nova Scotia Provincial Library and Seniors and Long-Term Care.

The Seniors Week Speaker Series has something for everyone. All sessions are free and most are online (held on MS Teams), although some sessions are in-person. Session titles and registration information can be found below:

  • 11:00am-1:00pm at the Bedford Public Library: Create your own vision board! A vision board is a visual representation of you – what you enjoy, what you want to explore, your hopes, dreams, and goals. This interactive workshop will give you the tools (literally and figuratively) to develop your own vision board that can act as a guiding compass through life’s transitions, while helping you stay authentic to who you are, and what makes you happy. Participants will create their own vision board during the session. All supplies will be provided. Click here to register for this in-person session

Other events

Other events to mark Seniors Week are planned in many communities throughout the province, hosted by local organizations. Watch your local news sources and community pages for events in your area like:

  • visiting your local library to find more resources and information to support aging well
  • exploring HealthyNS online for recordings, wellness tools, and ways to keep the conversation going

Seniors Week Reading List

The Nova Scotia Provincial Library has created reading lists that reflect this year's theme: Celebrating Aging Well. These titles highlight the experiences and contributions of older adults and invite readers to think about aging in a positive way.

Nova Scotians can access the reading list through their local public libraries:

A community toolkit has been developed to support local organizations wishing to host events. Some event suggestions include:

  • an organized walk, ending at a common location for coffee/tea and conversation
  • engaging a local speaker on a relevant topic; ask the local library or community hub if they have an available meeting space
  • a book club discussion (the book could be written by a local senior author or on a topic relevant to aging well)
  • show a movie or video presentation on a topic of aging well
