Cemetery & Funeral Services Enforcement Activity

Cemetery and funeral services are regulated by two organizations in Nova Scotia.

The Nova Scotia Board of Registration of Embalmers and Funeral Directors (the Board) is responsible for licensing and regulating embalmers and funeral directors, this includes ensuring funeral professionals adhere to professional standards. When the Board investigates a complaint an inquiry can be held and, as a result, a funeral director or embalmer could have their licence suspended or revoked.

Information on the enforcement action of the Board

Service Nova Scotia is responsible for licensing funeral homes and crematoriums under the Embalmers and Funeral Directors Act. Funeral homes who sell pre-arranged funerals and their staff are also required to be licensed under the Cemetery and Funeral Services Act, cemeteries are also licensed under this Act.

To address concerns about the business operations of funeral homes and cemeteries, Service Nova Scotia conducts hearings and the results of those hearings and any enforcement action taken are posted below.
