About Lien Check

Purchasing a previously owned item? By using Lien Check you can ensure there are no outstanding loans against it. You may use Lien Check to search for liens on serial-numbered items such as cars, boats, trailers, mobile homes, aircrafts or outboard motors.

Lien Check provides quick and easy access to the Personal Property Registry System. This can help protect you from purchasing personal property that may be subject to seizure now or in the future.

Searches are conducted using the serial number and the territory or province where you wish to search. The service is available in the Northwest Territories, Nunavut, New Brunswick, Nova Scotia, Prince Edward Island and Newfoundland and Labrador. Search fees vary by jurisdiction and payment is done by credit card online.

You should not use Lien Check to search for personal property other than a motor vehicle, trailer, mobile home, airplane, boat or outboard motor. Though other goods (for example: computers, televisions, home appliances, tools) may feature a serial number, they are not identified as serial numbered goods within the Personal Property Registry.

If you are unsure how to proceed, we would recommend the use of an ACOL listed Service Provider or other Private Service Provider to assist you with a search.
