| Who Needs This Registration? | ||
| Any individual who owns and/ or operates a class 20, 28 vehicle with a registered weight in excess of 4500kg or any individual with a class 23 vehicle with a seating capacity of 10 or more (including the driver) - regardless of weight - as of March 31, 2005, is legally required to be registered with the Commercial Carrier Registration Program. |

Commercial Carriers may submit their initial applications by mail or in person to any Registry of Motor Vehicles office throughout the province. New Commercial Carrier clients should remit a completed Commercial Carrier Registration Program - National Safety Code application form along with the applicable fee (See Price below). You can download an application form and an information package from our website. Applications, client information packages and fact sheets are also available by calling the Commercial Carrier Registration Program - National Safety Code office at 902-860-5540. Renewing Commercial Carrier clients should remit a completed Commercial Carrier Registration renewal notice with your application along with the applicable fee (See Price below). If you have lost your Commercial Carrier Registration renewal notice, blank notices are available at any Registry of Motor Vehicles office or online at :http://www.servicens.ca/forms/rmv.asp The applications submitted by mail will be processed by staff within the Mail Processing Section of the Service Delivery Division of Service Nova Scotia. |

| This Registration is valid for 12 months from the initial transaction month. The Department will send out a renewal notice before it expires. Carriers can renew their registration annually either by mail or in person by submitting the renewal application form, along with the applicable fee (see Price & Payment below). |

Fire, Ambulance and Ground Search and Rescue emergency response vehicles will be exempt from all Commercial Carrier Registration Program requirements. Buses (class 23 - regardless of weight) used for personal use exclusively will also be exempt from all Commercial Carrier Registration Program requirements, provided the required supporting documentation can be produced. This exemption will also extend to all class 20 and 28 Commercial Carrier Registration Program eligible vehicles that are used exclusively for recreational purposes. Exemption forms are available from all RMV offices or online at: http://www.servicens.ca/forms/rmv.asp Vehicles owned and operated by charitable, non-profit or religious organizations used, exclusively to transport passengers are eligible to be in the Commercial Carrier Registration Program, but are exempt from the fee requirement if they are able to produce the required supporting documentation. Farmers who have Commercial Carrier Registration Program eligible vehicles with FM plate registration are exempt from both the fee and application/ renewal requirements, if they are able to produce the required supporting documentation.
