Bear Bait Site Registration

Who Needs This Registration?

There is no longer a requirement for hunters to register their bear bait site or to hunt only at a bait site. For more information consult the Nova Scotia Hunting and Furharvesting Summary of Regulations (which is available both in printed form and on the Department of Natural Resources website.)

Anyone who wishes to hunt bear during that part of the bear hunting season prior to the General Open Season for Hunting Deer will no longer be required to register a bait site with Natural Resources.

More information on the changes will be posted here and on the Department of Natural Resources website during the first week of August 2010.

Related Requirements:
  1. Hunting Licence: Bear, N.S. Department of Natural Resources - when actually carrying a weapon to attempt to harvest a bear during the open season;

  2. Guide's Licence (if guiding), N.S. Department of Natural Resources - when actually guiding a hunter with a weapon to attempt to harvest a bear during the open season;

  3. Written consent of the Landowner.
Additional Information:
  1. A hunting bait site may only be operated from August 1st to the end of the bear hunting season.

  2. The hunter must remove non-decomposable items/waste at the close of the season for hunting bear.

  3. A Special Baiting Permit may be issued for any specified period to persons who are not hunters for the sole purpose of viewing or photographing bear.
