Registry of Motor Vehicles - Vehicle Plate Renewal

Note: Effective January 1, 2004, any time a vehicle registration (plate) is renewed for a motorized vehicle (excludes off-highway vehicles, trailers, semi-trailers and miscellaneous towed vehicles), insurance information is required. A Statement of Insurance form must be completed for in-person and mail requests. For requests on-line, you must provide this information electronically.  For more information, click here.

iAll plates are under a 2-year renewal cycle except:

iAntique Auto Plates
iFarm Truck Plates
iPersonalized Plates
iMotorcycle Plates
iTrailer Plates
iFarm Equipment Plates
iLarge Commercial Vehicles Exceeding 5,000 Kilograms
iMotor Driven Cycle Plates
iMiscellaneous Equipment Plates
iOff Highway Vehicle Plates
iMotorized Home/Camper Plates

Plates may be renewed by submitting, along with the completed Statement of Insurance form, the appropriate fee with the reminder notice sent to you in the mail.

If a reminder notice is not received, you may submit the appropriate fee with a completed Statement of Insurance form and the renewal application form attached to your vehicle permit or complete and return Form 2.

Plates can be renewed through our Online Services. You may renew up to ten vehicle permits and plates, registered in the same name, up to two months before the expiry date. You will be asked for credit card information or will be directed to the Interac® Online service to complete payment for the transaction. The results of your transaction will be confirmed, including details of your payment, which can be printed for your records. Unless otherwise indicated, your payment receipt will be valid as a 10 day Interim Vehicle Permit. This 10 day Interim Vehicle Permit - legally allows you to operate your vehicle while you wait to receive your renewed vehicle permit and registration sticker in the mail.

Renewal fees are based on the weight, or the range of weights that are found in the Schedule of Fees.
