Who Needs This Licence?
  Any company involved in the adjusting of insurance claims in Nova Scotia.

Application Forms & Process:
  With this Licence, there are two different ways to submit your application form: 

A) You can send in a hard copy. You can get a form by: 
       (1) downloading a form from our website; 
       (2) calling, writing or visiting the Licensing Section office listed above. 

You can pay by Visa, MasterCard or American Express Credit Card. We cannot accept any form of Debit cards at this time. 

Information you will need to fill out your application form:

 
  • Canada Revenue Agency (CRA) Business Number.

  •  Registry of Joint Stock Companies Number
  • Agent-in-Charge's name (must be a Level IV Adjuster), contact information and date of birth.
  • Contact person (if not the Agent-in-charge), including name, contact information and date of birth.
  • List all employees, officers and partners, including contact information, date of birth and whether they will be adjusting claims in Nova Scotia.
  • Three years of employment history for Agent-in-charge, officers and partners.
  • Details are required if the agent-in-charge any partner or any officer or director have
  • had a licence or registration refused suspended, revoked or subject to a disciplinary hearing
  • been convicted of, or are currently charged, with an offence
  • been involved in a personal or corporate bankruptcy with the past six years
  • have any unpaid judgements against you
  • will be engaged or employed in any other business, occupation or profession
  • are currently licenced/register for the sale of any other financial products or services
  • are a director, officer or employee of a bank, loan corporation, finance, real estate or trust company

  A licensing guide can be obtained at any Access Nova Scotia Centre or from the Financial Institutions Division (in Halifax) listed above.

The completed application is submitted to the Department, along with the applicable fee (see Price below).

If all requirements are met and the application is approved, the licence will be mailed to the applicant.

Waiting Period:
  10 business days
Provided that all the items that must accompany the application have been received
Expiry & Renewal:
  This licence is valid for 3 years from the day it is issued. It can be renewed; the Department will send out a renewal notice approximately 45 days before it expires.
Price: (No tax is charged)
 

Initial application and renewal:  $398.10
Certificate of Status:  $13.30

If you send in an application form (or drop it off in person), payment is by cash, cheque or money order made out to the Minister of Finance.   No debit cards are accepted at this time. 

Related Requirements:
 
  1. The applicant is required to have completed the courses and experience as prescribed by the Regulations governing this licence.

  2. Registration with the N.S. Registry of Joint Stock Companies.
Additional Information:
  Licences will not be issued to any partnership or corporation in the business of adjusting claims, unless they have a level IV licensed adjuster on staff. The fee for a level V licence is the same as the fee for an individual.
