Registry of Motor Vehicles - Conservation Plates

  • Service Nova Scotia in partnership with the Department of Natural Resources have developed a new Conservation Licence Plate that will allow Nova Scotians to show their support for protecting species at risk in Nova Scotia.

  • The Conservation licence plate is now available from any
  • Registry of Motor Vehicle Offices throughout Nova Scotia.          

  • The Conservation licence plate will be issued in sequential order to passenger and light commercial vehicles up to 5000 kgs (trucks and vans) in the name of individuals who choose to support the species at risk fund.  

  • The registration fee for a Conservation licence plate will be the standard fee associated with the class and weight of the vehicle being registered. An additional one time $26.10 administration fee and $60.50 donation fee which will be directed to the Species at Risk Conservation Fund, will also be applied.
  • For future renewals, regular plate renewal fees will apply.
    Note: Effective January 1, 2004, any time a vehicle registration (plate) is issued or renewed, insurance information is required. A Statement of Insurance form must be completed for in-person and mail requests. For requests on-line, you must provide this information electronically.  For more information, click here.
  • Applicants may apply to replace their current regular alpha-numeric licence plate with a conservation plate, at any time, for a donation fee of $60.50 and an administration fee of $26.10. Applicants do not have to wait for their normal bi-annual plate renewal. 

  • The cost of replacing a lost or stolen Conservation licence plate is $26.10.

  • Current Canada Revenue Agency requirements will not allow the donation to be used as a tax deduction.

  • The Species at Risk Conservation Fund is administered by the Department of Natural Resources. Funds received will be used to support initiatives that help protect Nova Scotia’s species at risk.
