Nova Scotia Student Loan Forgiveness Program: disability

Students who need more time to complete their degree, diploma or certificate because of their disability can have their loans forgiven for more years of study.

Loan forgiveness works differently for students graduating with an undergraduate degree or for students graduating with a diploma or certificate:

• Undergraduate degrees loan forgiveness
• Certificates and diplomas loan forgiveness

Eligibility

To be eligible:

• you must qualify as a student with a disability under Nova Scotia Student Assistance criteria
• when you complete your program, you must have studied full-time at a reduced rate between 40% and 60% of a standard course load
• you must complete your degree within 10 years of starting it or complete your diploma or certificate within 6 years of starting it

All other criteria are the same as the Nova Scotia Student Loan Forgiveness Program for Undergraduate Degrees or the Nova Scotia Student Loan Forgiveness Program for Certificates and Diplomas.

How to apply

You don’t have to apply to be considered for the Loan Forgiveness - Disability Program. All students are automatically assessed for eligibility under the Nova Scotia Student Loan Forgiveness Program when they graduate.
