Nova Scotia University Student Bursary

Government gives Nova Scotia residents a bursary when they study at a Nova Scotia university.

Eligibility

You must be a Nova Scotia resident studying at a Nova Scotia university. You can be a full-time or part-time student, in an undergraduate or graduate program or taking a distance education course.

You’re considered a Nova Scotia resident if you have a student loan from the province of Nova Scotia.

If you don’t have a student loan, you’re considered a Nova Scotia resident if you attended high school in Nova Scotia immediately before starting university, or if you lived in Nova Scotia when you applied for university.

You’ll get the bursary even if you’re receiving other scholarships or bursaries, or if your employer is paying your tuition.

Bursary amount

If your university charges tuition per course, you’ll receive $128.30 for each 3-credit-hour (1 semester or ½ credit) course.

If your university charges tuition based on part-time or full-time status, you’ll receive $1,283.00 if you’re a full-time student and $641.50 if you’re part time. (Full-time students take 3 or more ½ credit courses per semester. Part-time students take less than 3.)

Payment

The bursary will be applied directly to your university student account. You’ll see the credit on your tuition invoice for each semester you’re registered.

If you think you qualify for the bursary but didn’t receive it, check with your university to make sure their records show you as a Nova Scotia student.

If you and your university don’t agree on whether you’re eligible, you can contact the Student Assistance Office at the Department of Labour and Advanced Education to file an appeal.
