Douglas Meadow Brook Wilderness Area is one of the larger remaining expanses of intact forest in the lowland landscape between the Cobequid Mountains and Northumberland Strait.

The wilderness area consists mostly of conifer forest, including long, narrow bands of hemlock dominated forest growing on east-west trending ridges. The site also supports large white pine trees and scattered hardwoods, including white and black ash.
