Christmas Tree Grading Registration: Nova Scotia Christmas Tree Grade (Voluntary)
Who Needs This Registration?
Anyone in Nova Scotia who wants to have the N.S. Department of Natural Resources administer a voluntary grade system for Christmas tree production (NS Christmas Tree Grade).

Application Forms & Process:
An application form can be obtained from the nearest Regional or Area Office of the N.S. Department of Natural Resources. When completed, it is submitted to any of these offices.

Applicants must pass a 2 day training course in Christmas tree grading held in October of each year.

If all requirements are met, and the application is approved, the applicant will be notified by phone by the Christmas Tree Specialist of the N.S. Department of Natural Resources.

Waiting Period:
Upon completion of course

Expiry & Renewal:
This registration is valid for 1 year from the date it is issued. The Department will send out a renewal notice before it expires. A Refresher course is required; see Additional Information, below.

Price:
Initial Application:  $67.00 (Application plus 1 year Registration)
Annual Renewal:  $36.00
Related Requirements:
New graders must pass an initial 2-day training program usually held in October each year followed by a field examination and attend a one-day refresher course once every two years.

Additional Information:
  1. The registration holder is required to take a 1-day refresher course once every two years.

  2. The registration holder must use official grade tags obtained from the Province of Nova Scotia.

  3. The work is subject to quality inspection by a Grade Supervisor.

  4. The registration holder must submit grader records to Department of Natural Resources.
