Shubenacadie Wildlife Management Area Regulations

made under Sections 15 and 113 of the

Wildlife Act

R.S.N.S. 1989, c. 504

Citation

1     These regulations may be cited as the Shubenacadie Wildlife Management Area Regulations.


Purpose

2     The purpose of these regulations is to provide for the safety of visitors to the Shubenacadie Wildlife Park.


Definitions

3     In these regulations,

 

                (a)    “Act” means the Wildlife Act;

 

                (b)    “bow” means a device made of wood, metal or other material capable of discharging arrows or missiles;

 

                (c)    “Director” means the Director of Wildlife, as defined in the Act;

 

                (d)    “weapons” means either a firearm or a bow, or both;

 

                (e)    “Wildlife Management Area” means the Shubenacadie Wildlife Management Area.


No possession or discharge of weapons

4     Except as provided in Section 5, a person must not possess or discharge weapons in the Wildlife Management Area.


Exceptions

5     (1)    A person may possess weapons in the Wildlife Management Area if

 

                (a)    the person’s principal residence is in the Wildlife Management Area and that person possesses weapons only on their property; or

 

                (b)    the person is travelling on the portion of Provincial Highway 224 that is within the Wildlife Management Area.

 

       (2)    A person employed by the Department may, in the course of carrying out their duties as an employee, possess and discharge a weapon in the Wildlife Management Area.

 

       (3)    The Director may authorize an owner or occupier of land in the Wildlife Management Area or that person’s agent to discharge a weapon in the Wildlife Management Area if, in the opinion of the Director, the discharge is required to control nuisance wildlife.
