Book a Road Test
Booking a road test is the next step to getting your Nova Scotia driver’s licence. Check below to see if you are eligible to book a road test online.
Who can book a road test online
You can book a road test online for all Access Nova Scotia locations with Driver Examination and Testing if you want to book one of these options:

Class 5 Cars, pick-up trucks, sports utility vehicles (SUVs) and vans weighing 14,000 kg or less
|

Class 1 Semi-trailers and tractor-trailer combinations
|
|
Class 2 Buses with more than 24 passengers, excluding school buses
|
|
School Bus School buses or school-purpose buses
|
|
Class 3 Large trucks weighing more than 14,000 kg (dump truck, cement truck, garbage truck)
|
|
Class 4 Ambulances and small buses which have a seat capacity of less than 24 passengers
|
|
Condition 15 with Class 3 Large trucks weighing more than 14,000 kg (dump truck, cement truck, garbage truck) with approval for a heavy trailer, valid for towing a trailer over 4,500 kg
|
|
Condition 15 with Class 5 Cars, pick-up trucks, sports utility vehicles and vans with approval for a heavy trailer, valid for towing a trailer over 4,500 kg
|
|
Balance motorcycle Balance motorcycle test (Class 6) is needed for the beginner’s motorcycle licence
Motorcycle road tests are typically available between April and November, depending on weather and road conditions |

Advanced motorcycle Advanced motorcycle test (Class 6) is needed for the full motorcycle licence or approval, known as an endorsement.

Who should not book a road test online?
You do not need to book a road test if you are eligible to exchange your licence from any province in Canada, or other location listed here.
If you have an incomplete or unsuccessful road test, you must wait until the next day before you can book another road test.

Before you take your test: Required Information and Documents
Vehicles are not provided for the road test. You must bring a vehicle you will use for the road test.
You also must have the following documents with you to take the road test:
- Valid driver’s licence
- Documents for the vehicle you will use for your road test:
- Proof of motor vehicle liability insurance
- Valid vehicle permit or temporary permit
- Proof of valid motor vehicle inspection
- Certificate of completion from a recognized Driver Training School (if applicable)
- A Driver's Medical Exam Report completed in the last 6 months if you are booking an appointment for a Class 1, 2, 2B, 3 or 4 licence
Before the road test, a Safety Check will be conducted even if you have a valid motor vehicle inspection.
How to pay for your road test
The cost for the road test for all classes is $52.54 (HST included). The cost for an interview is $68.10 (HST included).

Pay Online with a Credit Card (Recommended)
- Use our new Book a Road Test payment tool to pay securely with a credit card.
- Start the booking process below, and you'll be guided to the payment page.
Pay In-Person
- Visit any Access Nova Scotia or Registry of Motor Vehicles location to pay with cash, debit, cheque, or other non-credit card methods. You'll receive a road test receipt number to enter during booking.
How to book your road test if you have already paid
Already Paid?
- If you paid in-person or paid using the Pay for a Road test service and have not booked your road test yet, start the booking process below, and enter your road test receipt number when prompted.
- If you've already paid and booked, you can reschedule your road test online.
Do you want to Pay for another type of Road Test?

Clear any fines or fees before booking
Make sure all outstanding fines or reinstatement fees are paid before booking.
You won’t be able to receive or upgrade your driver’s licence after the test unless they are paid.
