PREMIER--PREMIER IN WASHINGTON ------------------------------------------------------------ Premier John Savage travels to Washington and New York next week for a series of business-related meetings. He will be accompanied by Transportation and Communications Minister Richie Mann and Economic Renewal Minister Robbie Harrison. While in the U.S. capital, the premier will address a Tuesday meeting of the Canada-American Business Council. The premier and ministers will also hold individual meetings with various industries to discuss trade and investment opportunities in Nova Scotia. On Wednesday, Premier Savage will attend the Marine Technology Showcase at the Canadian Embassy. A number of Nova Scotia companies are taking part in the showcase. He will also meet with the Canadian Ambassador to the United States, Raymond Chretien. While in Washington, the premier will also discuss fisheries issues with a number of U.S. congressional leaders, including Representative Jim Saxton, chair of the House Fisheries, Oceans and Wildlife subcommittee; and Congressman Peter Torkilsen, a member of the same committee. The premier will emphasize the importance of regional cooperation in the management of the fisheries. Tuesday evening, the premier will co-host with Ambassador Chretien the annual Christmas tree lighting ceremony at the Canadian Embassy. This year's tree comes from the Hazel Wright tree lot, near New Germany.
