TRANSPORTATION/COMMUNICATIONS--REGISTRY OF MOTOR VEHICLES ------------------------------------------------------------ Seniors and those with mobility and health concerns will find it easier to do business at Sydney's Registry of Motor Vehicles -- thanks to an improved customer service counter located on the ground floor of the Provincial Building, Prince Street. Recent necessary renovations by the Department of Supply and Services enabled the establishment of the new counter service at minimal cost. While the general public will continue to use the second floor service centre, beginning Friday, Jan. 19, those requiring more accessible service will not have to climb stairs and will be able to sit in a new waiting area while their transactions are being processed. A wheelchair ramp and an elevator remain in service and designated parking is also available. "The service level wasn't satisfactory for all members of the public, given that there are 30 or more steps to the second floor service centre. With this new customer service initiative, people should find it more convenient and comfortable to do business at the Sydney office," said Transportation and Communications Minister Richie Mann, who will be attend the opening ceremony of the facility at 2 p.m. Friday. The second floor service centre will continue to operate during normal business hours, Monday and Tuesday from 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. and Wednesday through Friday from 8:30 a.m. to 7:00 p.m. The new first floor service centre will be open Monday to Friday from 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. -30- Contact: Public Affairs and Communications 902-424-8687 trp Jan. 18, 1996 - 10:15 a.m.
