AGRICULTURE/MARKETING--1996 YOUNG FARMERS CONFERENCE ------------------------------------------------------------ The Young Farmers Conference being held at the Oak Island Inn, Western Shore, Lunenburg County, from Feb. 14 to 16, will bring together nearly 65 farmers and farm couples, 35 years of age and under, from across the province. The theme of this year's conference is "Diversification On The Farm - A Key to the Future". A workshop on team building and networking will help develop the skills young farmers need to explore new options and ventures in response to the changing agri-food industry. Farm tours, an integral part of the programming, are designed to show successful examples of farms that have diversified. Sessions on trends in the consumer driven marketplace, finding market opportunities and farmers' role in telling the agricultural story are also key features of the conference. Along with the formal educational component, there will be opportunities for farm couples to share ideas, problems and solutions, renew acquaintances and make new friends. The conference is made possible through the support and contributions from various businesses, farm organizations and the Department of Agriculture and Marketing. Those interested in attending the conference should contact the coordinator, Dean Manning, Lawrencetown, at 902-584-2231. -30- Contact: Dean Manning 902-584-2231 trp Jan. 23, 1996 - 11:43 a.m.
