EDUCATION/CULTURE--CRAFTS-"Innovations" and "Practising the Craft" ----------------------------------------------------------------- The Nova Scotia Centre for Craft and Design is hosting two craft displays entitled "Innovations" and "Practising the Craft", from Feb. 28 to April 10. These two displays feature work from students of the Nova Scotia College of Art and Design and recent graduates of the college who are in the craft business. The displays are part of the centre's ongoing production crafts display program which allows the public to look at the work of Nova Scotia producers without the pressure to buy. Information is made available for people who wish to know where the products can be purchased. The displays are a good sample of the range and quality of crafts available in this province. "Innovations" is a juried display of work by NSCAD students. This opportunity offers the students a realistic exposure to some of the important issues in designing for the craft market. "Innovations" includes work in jewellery, textiles and ceramics. "Practising the Craft" promotes a variety of works produced by recent NSCAD graduates involved in the craft business. This display includes work from Artrage Studios, Barbara Albert, Black Scratch Earth, Bruce Babcock, Dawn Jaya, Jan Crick, Janet Doble, Nine of Cups, Red Earth Ceramics, Tangerine Tileworks, Vivien Lau, and Zorane Design, all located in Halifax. The Centre for Craft and Design, located at 1683 Barrington St., Halifax, is dedicated to preserving and promoting the craft industry of Nova Scotia. The centre is part of the cultural affairs division of the Department of Education and Culture. -30- Contact: Nova Scotia Centre for Craft and Design 902-424-4062 trp Feb. 22, 1996 - 4:25 p.m.
