COMMUNITY SERVICES--TASK FORCE ON SERVICES TO BLACK COMMUNITIES ----------------------------------------------------------------- Community Services Minister Jim Smith today announced the appointment of the Task Force on Services to Black Communities. "I am delighted that we have such strong regional representation on the task force," the minister said. "We have 10 individuals who come from all walks of life who are ready to work closely with black communities across Nova Scotia and make recommendations to government about future service delivery." The mandate of the task force will be to consult with members of the black community and with existing black community agencies, and others, about the level of services across Nova Scotia currently being provided in the black community. The task force will also prioritize service needs in concert with the community. "I expect to receive a report and recommendations from the task force within three months," the minister said. "I am hopeful that in addition to identifying service priorities, the group will be able to provide some possible service models and some recommendations about the role of government in the future delivery of service to the black community." Members of the task force include: Geraldine Browning, Centerville (co-chair); Clotilda Yakimchuk, Sydney (co-chair); Percy Paris, Windsor Junction; Ada Fells, Yarmouth; Benjamin Elms, Digby; Lem Skeete, Sydney; Lana MacLean, Halifax; Joan Jones, Halifax; Sandra Anderson, New Glasgow; and Patricia Skinner, Antigonish. -30- Contact: Margaret Murphy 902-424-4880 trp Mar. 20, 1996 - 10:00 a.m.
