NATURAL RESOURCES--NOVA SCOTIA PROTECTED AREAS APPLAUDED ----------------------------------------------------------------- Nova Scotia has been hailed nationally as making a "giant leap" in protecting the province's heritage by developing and introducing the Parks and Protected Areas systems plan. The Nova Scotia plan is the headline story in the spring edition of Endangered Spaces, the quarterly newsletter of the World Wildlife Fund Canada. "It is a real credit to the province to be featured so prominently in this publication," said Natural Resources Minister Don Downe. "This type of coverage tells the rest of the country that, in Nova Scotia, we care about our natural heritage and have taken action to protect it." Last spring in its annual endangered spaces progress report, the World Wildlife Fund gave the Nova Scotia government the third highest mark in the country for its efforts to protect natural areas. The World Wildlife Fund will release its 1995-96 progress report sometime in April. -30- Contact: Blain Henshaw 902-424-5252 trp Mar. 25, 1996 - 12:30 p.m.
