HEALTH--MANITOBA PHYSICIAN TO JOIN RURAL NOVA SCOTIA PRACTICE ----------------------------------------------------------------- The community of New Germany, Lunenburg County, will soon be welcoming a new physician in the person of Dr. Mark Pennell, a general practitioner from Stonewall, Man. "The recruitment of Dr. Pennell was the result of a joint effort between the community of New Germany, the Medical Society of Nova Scotia and the Department of Health," said Frank Peters, provincial physician recruitment coordinator. New Germany was designated as an underserviced area by the joint management committee of the Medical Society and the Department of Health. "Dr. Pennell's arrival will see him join two other physicians and bring physician care in the community to its full complement," said Mr. Peters. Dr. Pennell, educated in England and originally from a small fishing village in Cornwall, England, has been practising in rural Manitoba since 1989. Dr. Pennell's wife, Wendy a Winnipeg native, is an avid equestrian and plans to establish her own riding facility in the New Germany area. Since Mr. Peter's appointment in September, 1995, a partnership between Mr. Peters and Nova Scotia communities has resulted in 10, positions being filled across the province. Three positions have been under the incentive package, while seven physicians have been placed in non-incentive areas. Three more incentive area placements are in various stages of negotiation. -30- Contact: Donna Christopher 902-468-1866 trp Mar. 27, 1996 - 2:40 p.m.
