HOUSING/MUNICIPAL AFFAIRS--SUMMER PROGRAM CREATES 400 JOBS ----------------------------------------------------------------- Public housing will soon get a facelift under a $1.5 million summer job program. Housing and Municipal Affairs Minister Sandy Jolly today announced the creation of approximately 400 jobs this summer for students and the unemployed. People will be hired to spruce up the 12,000 public housing units throughout the province. The work will involve light maintenance and landscaping services. "The program is creating much-needed jobs and at the same time improving housing communities right across the province," said the minister. The Summer Employment Program begins May 21 and runs for 16 weeks. Applications are available at the 18 regional housing authorities, the Canada and Student Employment Centres and the Access Nova Scotia Centres throughout Nova Scotia. -30- contact: Michelle Whelan 902-424-6336 trp May 06, 1996 - 2:50 p.m.
