HEALTH--ACT TO ESTABLISH THE IWK-GRACE ----------------------------------------------------------------- The Izaak Walton Killam - Grace Health Centre Act introduced in the legislature today will formalize the merger of the Izaak Walton Killam Children's hospital (IWK) and the Grace Maternity Hospital to form the Izaak Walton Killam-Grace Health Centre for Children, Women and Families. "Introducing this legislation today is one of the last steps required to finalize the merger of two of our finest health care facilities," said Health Minister Ron Stewart. "It is necessary to help streamline operations to enhance health services for the children, women and families in Nova Scotia and the Maritimes." The two hospitals have been acting as one since January, 1995. The Department of Health approved in December 1994 the implementation of a Health System for Women and Children, a proposal to integrate health services for children, women and families in the Maritimes. Employees of the IWK and the Grace will become employees of the IWK-Grace Health Centre. -30- Contact: Sue McKeage 902-424-3581 trp May 17, 1996 - 12:35 p.m.
