PREMIER--DEPUTY MINISTERS ANNOUNCED ----------------------------------------------------------------- Premier John Savage today announced the reassignment of two deputy ministers. Peter Underwood, Deputy Minister of Fisheries, moves to the Department of Environment. Alan Steel, acting Deputy Minister of Intergovernmental Affairs, becomes Deputy Minister of Fisheries. Both appointments are effective immediately. The new assignments were made necessary by the retirement of the former Deputy Minister of Environment, Wayne Grady. Mr. Underwood graduated from Dalhousie University in 1973 with a Bachelor of Science degree in biology and chemistry. He later attended the State University of New York where he completed a Master of Science degree with concentration in marine ecosystem ecology. He graduated from Dalhousie University Law School in 1981. Prior to his appointment as deputy of fisheries in January, 1994, Mr. Underwood served as director of policy, planning and coordination with the Department of the Environment. The new Deputy Minister of Fisheries, Alan Steel became acting deputy of Intergovernmental Affairs in 1994. He previously held senior management positions in the Departments of Natural Resources and Lands and Forests.
