EDUCATION/CULTURE--METAL CRAFTS DISPLAY ----------------------------------------------------------------- The Nova Scotia Centre for Craft and Design is hosting a display of metal crafts until July 3. It features work from members of the Metal Arts Guild of Nova Scotia. The display is part of the centre's ongoing production crafts display program which allows the public to look at the work of Nova Scotia producers without the pressure to buy. Information is made available for people who wish to know where the products can be purchased. The displays are a sample of the range and quality of crafts available in the province. The Metal Arts Guild is a non-profit organization of metal workers. The purpose of the guild is to stimulate and develop interest in handmade metal craft articles. The membership encompasses beginning jewellers, hobbyists, and experienced professionals. In recent years the guild has grown to include knife makers, blacksmiths and tinsmiths. Members, whose work is on display, include: Tracy Hamilton, Chris Shute, Harriet Burdett-Moulton, Donald Bell, Kim Goldsmith, Todd Bennett, John Vandermeulen and Mikey Heron. The Centre for Craft and Design, 1683 Barrington Street, Halifax, is dedicated to preserving and promoting the craft industry of Nova Scotia. The centre is part of the Cultural Affairs Division of the Department of Education and Culture. The Metal Arts Guild display may be viewed Monday to Friday from 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. and Saturday 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. There is no admission charge. -30- Contact: Nova Scotia Centre for Craft and Design 902-424-4062 trp June 05, 1996 - 8:30 a.m.
