NEWS RELEASE (CNS600) -->> EDUCATION/CULTURE--MINISTER THANKS TEACHERS ON WORLD TEACHER DAY EDUCATION/CULTURE--MINISTER THANKS TEACHERS ON WORLD TEACHER DAY ----------------------------------------------------------------- Teachers across Nova Scotia are among the best in the world, said Education and Culture Minister Robbie Harrison today, commenting on the celebration of World Teachers' Day. Mr. Harrison referred to a recent Atlantic Canadian survey that gave teachers top marks. "Eight out of ten students believe their teachers are fair and supportive," said the minister. "While this doesn't surprise me, I'm pleased to see teachers get the recognition they deserve." World Teachers' Day was initiated by the United Nations Educational Scientific and Cultural Organization (UNESCO) some years ago and proclaimed by Premier John Savage in 1995. "World Teachers' Day is a great day to thank teachers for a job well done, each and every day in the classroom," said Mr. Harrison. -30- Contact: Catherine MacIsaac 902-424-2795 trp Oct. 04, 1996 - 11:20 a.m.
