TRANSPORTATION/PUBLIC WORKS--TAR PONDS DRAFT LEGAL REVIEW ----------------------------------------------------------------- The Department of Transportation and Public Works will act on recommendations made by the province's freedom of information officer to release information in a preliminary legal review of the Sydney Tar Ponds incineration project. "What we have is a draft report from our lawyers. The freedom of information officer acknowledged that some of its content is subject to solicitor-client privilege," said Transportation and Public Works Minister Don Downe. "We have heeded his guidance by removing some information and are releasing the remainder of the report today." The legal review began in January to determine what happened to more than $50 million spent by the federal and provincial governments on a failed incineration project launched in 1991. The information will be available at the department's Halifax office, Purdy's Wharf, Tower II, 4th floor or through the Tar Ponds Clean-up office, Sydney. -30- Contact: Angela Poirier 902-424-8687 trp Oct. 24, 1996 - 10:10 a.m.
