NEWS RELEASE (CNS715) -->> ECONOMIC RENEWAL--APPOINTMENTS MADE TO DEVELOPMENT BOARD ECONOMIC RENEWAL--APPOINTMENTS MADE TO DEVELOPMENT BOARD ----------------------------------------------------------------- Economic Renewal Minister Richie Mann today confirmed a new board of directors for the Nova Scotia Business Development Corporation (NSBDC). Bill Wade, of Wade Enterprises, Kentville, is the new chair of the 12-person board. New appointments to the board include: John Risley, Clearwater Fine Foods, Halifax; Leonard Sarsfield, Sarsfield Foods Ltd., Kentville; D. Stephen Rankin, Rankin & Associates Ltd., Halifax; and Charles T. Smith, Antigonish. Returning appointments include: James MacConnell, Scotsburn Cooperative Services Ltd., Scotsburn; Irving Schwartz, Schwartz & Co. Ltd., Sydney; E. Neil Black, At Your Service Financial Merchants Ltd., Dartmouth; Irene d'Entremont, Women's Up To Date Shop Inc., Yarmouth; Lonsdale W. Holland, Beacon Securities Ltd., Halifax; Gerry E. Moore, Gerilyn Enterprises Ltd., Amherst; Grace White, CanJam Trading Ltd., Dartmouth. "These are all successful, private sector people who are well-respected for their business experience and knowledge of the Nova Scotia economy," said Mr. Mann. "We in government appreciate and depend upon the BDC board for their business advice and guidance. I'm looking forward to working in partnership with this board to create jobs around the province." The NSBDC provides loans and loan guarantees for business start-ups or expansion in Nova Scotia, and also assists companies with restructuring. The NSBDC board of directors reviews business proposals and recommends approvals to the Economic Renewal Agency. "The Business Development Corporation has assisted companies in every region of this province over the years," Mr. Mann said. "Maintaining jobs in regional economies is a very important function of the corporation and the BDC recognizes that responsibility."
