NEWS RELEASE (CNS723) -->> EDUCATION/CULTURE--WORKPLACE EXPERIENCES PROGRAM FOR EDUCATORS EDUCATION/CULTURE--WORKPLACE EXPERIENCES PROGRAM FOR EDUCATORS ----------------------------------------------------------------- A select group of Nova Scotian teachers will be leaving their classrooms to gain business workplace experience under the recently launched Workplace Experiences Program for Educators. In addition to building links between the workplace and schools, the program is intended to provide teachers with the opportunity to bring back to their students real, current information on the workplace. The Workplace Experiences Program for Educators is a partnership between the Nova Scotia Teachers Union and the Centre for Entrepreneurship Education and Development (CEED). The program was created in response to the need for today's students to understand the need for life-long learning and adaptation to change. Teachers will bring back real-life experience from their week in a workplace environment of their choice. The experience is intended to help them assist students to develop relevant employability skills and attitude, and to make effective career choices. The program arranges for a substitute teacher and matches the participants with businesses in which they have expressed an interest. Participants will maintain a log of their experiences, produce an evaluation with the employer and submit a report to the Centre for Entrepreneurship Education and Development. The program is limited to 15 placements, beginning in January, 1997. The deadline for applications has been extended to Nov. 15.
