NEWS RELEASE (CNS770) -->> HEALTH--NEW HEALTH CARE FACILITY FOR CHETICAMP HEALTH--NEW HEALTH CARE FACILITY FOR CHETICAMP ----------------------------------------------------------------- Premier John Savage announced today that residents of the Cheticamp area of Inverness County will soon benefit from a new health care facility. "I am very pleased to announce today the government's support for a new health care facility to benefit residents of Cheticamp and the surrounding area," said Premier John Savage. "Plans for the new building will begin immediately." The Eastern Regional Health Board will participate in a planning process to ensure the health care services provided at the new facility are consistent with provincial health strategies and are responding to the community's health care needs. Planners and architects will be engaged shortly so that construction can begin in the spring. The hospital board, community and the Department of Health have worked together over the past few years to discuss the possibility of a new health care facility. Discussions and community input will continue to determine the health care services that the new facility should provide. The community will contribute 25 per cent of the funds for the new building. The province's share is 75 per cent. Total required funding will be approximately $5.5 million. "Local fundraising campaigns will be integral to the construction of the new facility," said Health Minister Bernie Boudreau. "It will certainly show what can be accomplished when government partners with communities." Sacred Heart Hospital, the current facility, has served residents from Pleasant Bay to Belle Cote, as well as some patients from the Margaree area, for 59 years. Governance of the hospital will soon be transferred from the hospital board to the Eastern Regional Health Board. -30- Contact: Sue McKeage 902-424-3581 trp Nov. 07, 1996 - 11:45 a.m.
