NEWS RELEASE (CNS787) -->> ENVIRONMENT--ACTING CHAIR OF RRFB INC. APPOINTED ENVIRONMENT--ACTING CHAIR OF RRFB INC. APPOINTED ----------------------------------------------------------------- Environment Minister Wayne Adams has appointed Richard Russell of Dartmouth as acting chair of the Resource Recovery Fund Board Inc. He will replace Elwood Dillman, who has resigned after a one-year term. "I am pleased that Mr. Russell has agreed to serve as the acting chair", said Mr. Adams. "He has the combination of business skills and dedication to the environment needed to continue the success story of recycling in Nova Scotia." Mr. Russell is a long standing member of the RRF board. The minister paid tribute to Mr. Dillman's accomplishments in the time he has served with the Resource Recovery Fund Board Inc. and its predecessor, the Resource Recovery Fund. "Elwood Dillman took the idea of cleaning up the environment and creating jobs for Nova Scotians and made it a reality," said Mr. Adams. "Elwood's legacy is a recycling plan second to none in Canada that has created hundreds of jobs across the province." The recovery rate for beverage containers has hit the 75 per cent mark in the first three months of the program. Nearly 100 million containers have been removed from the waste stream so far, creating nearly 300 jobs in the process, the minister said. The search for a permanent chair is under way. -30- Contact: Paul McEachern 902-424-2575 trp Nov. 12, 1996 - 4:45 p.m.
