AGRICULTURE/MARKETING--CARIBBEAN AGRI-FOOD MISSION-SECOND PHASE ----------------------------------------------------------------- Members of the Nova Scotian agri-food mission to the Caribbean continue to be encouraged as they begin the second leg of their trade initiative. Nova Scotia agri-business people, educators and government representatives spent three days meeting with business and government officials in Barbados. Over 70 people attended a reception just before the group embarked for Trinidad and Tobago. Trinidad, the second largest Caribbean island, has a strong and growing economy driven by oil and gas revenues and compares to Nova Scotia in terms of population. It is an important participant in trade blocs in the region and offers not only local trade opportunities for Nova Scotians, but also access to larger Latin American markets. The Nova Scotia group was met by members of the Trinidad business community at a reception hosted by the Bank of Nova Scotia. Members of the mission are meeting with potential buyers and joint venture partners as well as organizations such as the Inter-American Development Bank, the Canada Caribbean Business Co-operation Office and the Trinidad Manufacturers Association. -30- Contact: Linda MacDonald 902-893-6380 trp Nov. 15, 1996 - 9:25 a.m.
