NEWS RELEASE (CNS835) -->> NATURAL RESOURCES-CONTRACTORS ENCOURAGED TO ATTEND SABLE SESSIONS NATURAL RESOURCES-CONTRACTORS ENCOURAGED TO ATTEND SABLE SESSIONS ----------------------------------------------------------------- Businesses and contractors in Nova Scotia will be briefed next week on opportunities linked to the Sable Offshore Energy Project (SOEP). Natural Resources Minister Eleanor Norrie said "It's an excellent opportunity for the Nova Scotia business community to learn more about the project and determine where they can fit." Project proponents will hold sessions in Halifax and Port Hawkesbury to unveil contracting strategy and supplier registration programs. "There are endless advantages available to Nova Scotia firms," said Mrs. Norrie. "Government has made a commitment to a Nova Scotia first policy, but firms should make themselves known so they can benefit from this tremendous opportunity." The project will offer many short and long term employment opportunities, as well as contracts for services and supplies. Pending regulatory approval, the SOEP proponents will make a decision in 1997 whether to proceed with the project. In the meantime, many preparations must be made, including identifying opportunities, and firms in Nova Scotia that are prepared to bid on these opportunities. The sessions next week are the start of this process. The contracting strategy and supplier registration information sessions will be held from 9 a.m. to 12 noon at both locations: Monday, Nov. 25, 1996 in the Port Royal Room "E", World Trade and Convention Centre, Halifax. Tuesday, Nov. 26, 1996, at the Wandlyn Inn, Hawkesbury Room, Port Hawkesbury. -30- Contact: Dianne Coish, Offshore Energy Office 902-424-4426 trp Nov. 22, 1996 - 12:40 p.m.
