NEWS RELEASE (CNS944) -->> PUBLIC PROSECUTION SERVICE--FOUR NEW APPOINTMENTS PUBLIC PROSECUTION SERVICE--FOUR NEW APPOINTMENTS ----------------------------------------------------------------- Four appointments have been announced by the director of Public Prosecutions, Jerry Pitzul. Mr. Pitzul said today that Gordon Brown, Bedford has joined the Public Prosecution Service (PPS) as manager, administrative services; Del Atwood, Corner Brook, Newfoundland and Jane Elizabeth Mills, Cow Bay, Halifax County have been hired as Crown attorneys, Halifax region, and Paul Scovil, Yarmouth has been hired as Crown attorney, Western region. Mr. Brown will be responsible for coordinating the delivery of administrative services to the PPS, including finances, human resources, business planning, records management, procurement, facility management and information technology. Mr. Pitzul said, "The addition of Mr. Brown to the senior management team is a positive step forward by the Public Prosecution Service. It reflects our application of business practices that are consistent with providing high quality service." Mr. Brown's background includes director of Finance and Administration/Treasurer, Metropolitan Authority, Halifax; Treasurer and Comptroller, City of Sydney and Audit Technician, Thorne Riddell and Company, Dartmouth. Mr. Pitzul said. "The addition of the new Crown attorneys brings to the service a welcome mixture of extensive and varied experience in the practice of criminal law." Mr. Atwood has been a senior Crown attorney in western Newfoundland since 1995. He joined the Newfoundland Department of Justice as a Crown attorney in 1992. From 1986 - 1992, Mr. Atwood was a staff solicitor with Nova Scotia Legal Aid in New Glasgow. He is a graduate of Dalhousie Law School and St. Francis Xavier University. Ms. Mills has been a defence and prosecution attorney in Northern Ireland since 1981. Her experience has included prosecutions involving murder and non-jury terrorist cases. She also served as chairperson of the Legal Aid Committee for Northern Ireland. She is a graduate of Queen's University, Belfast and was recently admitted to the Nova Scotia Bar after successfully completing examinations in 1995. Mr. Scovil, a graduate of Acadia University and Dalhousie Law School, has been a lawyer with the Nova Scotia Legal Aid Commission in Yarmouth since 1987.
