NEWS RELEASE (CNS977) -->> ECONOMIC RENEWAL--1997 NOVA SCOTIA TRAVEL GUIDE ECONOMIC RENEWAL--1997 NOVA SCOTIA TRAVEL GUIDE ----------------------------------------------------------------- The l997 Doer's and Dreamer's Complete Travel Guide to Nova Scotia is at work in the marketplace today. The first half a million copies of the guide are making their way across the province and around the world. This is the earliest release in the publication's 20 year history. "The tourism industry considers the travel guide to be its signature marketing tool. Having it on the street before any other province gives Nova Scotia operators an important competitive edge as they plan for l997," Economic Renewal Minister Richie Mann said today. "Research shows that the travel guide not only entices visitors to Nova Scotia, it also encourages them to stay longer and to travel the province more extensively." The guide is a major component of Nova Scotia's tourism advertising campaigns in North America and Europe. It is circulated at strategic trade events and shows, at Canadian embassies and consulates and through the provincial visitor information system. "The travel guide is a valuable companion piece to our investment and trade efforts as well," said Mr. Mann. "It lets potential investors know about our terrific quality of life." The l997 guide includes information on more than 3,000 accommodations, campgrounds, festivals and cultural events, museums, adventure tourism operations and eating establishments which serve Nova Scotia's visitors. There are 200 new operators in the l997 guide. "The Nova Scotia tourism industry can be proud of the l997 guide," Mr. Mann said, "and its timely appearance in the marketplace is all important in the competitive world of travel marketing." -30- Contact: Rick Alexander 902-424-8922 trp Dec. 20, 1996 - 3:57 p.m.
