NATURAL RESOURCES--NEW OWNERSHIP OF SPROULE SAWMILL ----------------------------------------------------------------- Natural Resources Minister Eleanor Norrie says she is pleased that the Sproule family sawmill will continue to operate in Bible Hill, Colchester County. J.D. Irving Limited announced today that it has purchased the Sproule lumber mill and that it plans to add lumber drying kilns at the mill site this spring. "This acquisition means that the mill will maintain jobs and incomes for nearly 40 local people who are currently employed at the facility," said Mrs. Norrie. "For many years the Sproule mill and its predecessors have made an important contribution to the economy of the Colchester County region. "I am delighted that jobs associated with the mill will be maintained and that J.D. Irving plans to make a capital investment in lumber kilns at the Sproule facility. I congratulate the Irving company for this vote of confidence in Nova Scotia forestry and in the economy of our province," the minister said. -30- Contact: Blain Henshaw 902-424-5252 trp Jan. 8, 1997 - 3:50 p.m.
