NATURAL RESOURCES--COMPANIES ENCOURAGED TO COMPETE FOR CONTRACTS ----------------------------------------------------------------- Natural Resources Minister Eleanor Norrie is calling on companies in Nova Scotia to make their presence and their skills known to partners in the Sable Offshore Energy Project (SOEP). An electronic bulletin board has been established where bidders can obtain documents for tenders related to the SOEP and Nova Scotia businesses are encouraged to subscribe to the service. "This is an efficient means by which to obtain information regarding tender notices and documents," said Mrs. Norrie. "I am concerned that if Nova Scotia businesses don't subscribe, there is the potential for lost opportunity." So far, 50 firms in Nova Scotia have subscribed. "The highest number of employment opportunities will come from contractors engaged in the process. If those contractors don't know what's available, and therefore don't bid on contracts, everyone will loose," said the minister. "Essentially a subscription would list the company's products and services and that company would automatically receive relevant tender notices and you don't have to own a computer to subscribe, in that the company will also fax relevant information to the subscriber." The SOEP opportunities include, engineering, production and maintenance of offshore wells; engineering, fabrication, installation, operation and maintenance of offshore platforms; construction of the main subsea pipeline, the lines connecting the wells, the liquids line and the main transmission line which will transport the natural gas to end markets.
