EDUCATION/CULTURE--NSCC PROGRAMS NATIONALLY ACCREDITED ----------------------------------------------------------------- Five Nova Scotia Community College (NSCC) technology programs have been selected by the Canadian Technology Accreditation Board (CTAB) for national accreditation. This brings the NSCC total of nationally accredited technology programs to nine. The latest recipients of recognition are the Institute of Technology Campus, in Halifax, (electrical, electronics, and mechanical engineering technology); Pictou Campus (electronics engineering technician), and the College of Geographic Sciences Campus, Lawrencetown, Annapolis County (Geomatics Technology). Earlier recipients included Burridge Campus, Yarmouth (computer service technician); Lunenburg Campus (electronics engineering technician) and I.W. Akerley Campus, Dartmouth (electronics engineering technician and building technology). The CTAB is a standing committee of the Canadian Council of Technicians and Technologists (CCTT). The board was created in 1982 to further develop the standards and criteria for member registration and to undertake the accreditation of engineering and applied science technology across Canada. The CTAB mission is to promote and ensure excellence in technical education. Working in partnership with the provincial constituent member associations, the board fulfills its mission through the National Technology Accreditation program. This program promotes and fosters a consistent, high quality educational system for technology across Canada. The member association for Nova Scotia is the Society of Certified Engineering Technician and Technologists of Nova Scotia (SCETTNS). Registration in a nationally accredited technology program is a student's assurance that their commitment of time and resources is a protected investment. As well, graduates from accredited programs become eligible for registration as certified technicians or technologists within the member associations upon completion of two years of practical employment experience. This certification ensures recognition and mobility in the national and international workplace. Today CTAB representatives will be at the Institute of Technology Campus, in Halifax, to present accreditation. Yesterday a presentation was made at Pictou Campus and later this month the College of Geographic Sciences Campus will receive its accreditation. -30- Contact: Wilma Butts 902-424-2524 trp Jan. 17, 1997 - 11:05 a.m.
