GAMING CORPORATION--SYDNEY CASINO PERFORMANCE IMPROVING ----------------------------------------------------------------- The Nova Scotia Gaming Corporation is reporting net gaming profits of $27.5 million for the third quarter, ended Dec. 31, 1996. This represents a six per cent increase in net income compared to the same period in 1995. The financial performance of the Sydney Casino continues to improve, with casino revenue showing a 24 per cent improvement over the third quarter in 1995. The Halifax Casino experienced revenue growth of approximately 15 per cent during this period. The Atlantic Lottery Corporation generated net profit of $27.4 million versus $26.3 million for the same quarter in 1995. Chair of the corporation, Ralph Fiske said results from the third quarter are extremely positive. In particular, the Sydney Casino has virtually eliminated the $1.6 million shortfall which was noted at the end of March, 1996. "Sydney's performance to date certainly would support the projection of a profit being available for distribution to eligible First Nation Bands and qualified charities in the upcoming year," Mr. Fiske said. -30- Contact: Ralph Fiske 902-424-2203 NOTE TO EDITORS: The Nova Scotia Gaming Corporation's third quarter report is available at the corporation's office at 5151 George Street, Suite 800, Bank of Montreal Building, Halifax, 902-424-2203 and at the Nova Scotia Government Bookstore, 1700 Granville Street, Halifax, phone (toll-free) 1-800-526-6575 or 424-7580. trp Feb. 17, 1997 - 3:15 p.m.
