EDUCATION/CULTURE--ARTISTS' WORK SELECTED FOR ART BANK ----------------------------------------------------------------- Thirty-two Nova Scotian artists will have their work purchased as part of the 1996-97 Nova Scotia Art Bank Purchase Program, announced Education and Culture Minister Robbie Harrison. "This is the 22nd year the Nova Scotia Art Bank has invested in the province's visual arts," said Mr. Harrison. "It is important for our government to recognize and support the work of many of Nova Scotia's excellent artists who enhance the province's diverse cultural identity." The Nova Scotia Art Bank was created to provide recognition to Nova Scotian artists and to stimulate public awareness of the visual arts through the purchase of art work which reflects the best of current visual expression. The annual purchase budget is $29,500. This year's three person jury was made up of two Annapolis Valley artists, Rose Adams of Paradise, Annapolis County and Jackie Mackay of Berwick, and Gordon Laurin from Halifax. The jury viewed the work of 132 visual artists and craftpersons and recommended the purchase of 32 artworks which include paintings, sculpture, photography, jewellery, video, a hooked rug, ceramics, an end table and a tapestry. -30- Contact: Donna MacDonald 902-442-2615 NOTE TO EDITORS: A list of the names and addresses of the 32 artists is available by calling 1-800-670-4357 or 1-902-424-4492. trp Feb. 20, 1997 - 2:50 p.m.
