HEALTH--MAKING COMMUNITIES HEALTHIER ----------------------------------------------------------------- Almost a year ago, Marge Keast and the staff at the Annapolis East Elementary school decided they needed an after school program for children. Today, thanks to a grant from the Community Health Promotion Fund (CHPF), they have a program in place. "The after school program works really well," said Ms. Keast, Parents And Children Together (P.A.C.T.) facilitator for Annapolis County. "Without the grant, we never would have been able to start the program up. The Community Health Promotion Fund provides a wonderful opportunity for community groups." To celebrate the grassroots programs and projects made possible with grants from the Community Health Promotion Fund, a fair is being held at Berwick School on Saturday, April 5 from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. P.A.C.T. is just one of the groups in the Annapolis/Kings area showcasing their programs and projects at the Community Health Promotion Fund (CHPF) Fair. Information will be available to the public about the various community programs and projects they can become involved in, as well as information on obtaining a Community Health Promotion Fund grant. Through the Department of Health, CHPF provided 17 projects in the Annapolis/Kings area with funds totalling almost $44,000 in 1996. The deadline for application submissions for the CHPF is May 30, 1997. Guidelines and application forms for CHPF grants will be made available at the fair for interested individuals and groups.
