UTILITY/REVIEW BOARD--HEARINGS-ACADIAN SCHOOL BOARD BOUNDARIES
-----------------------------------------------------------------
The Nova Scotia Utility and Review Board will hold hearings later
this month into proposed electoral boundaries for the Conseil
scolaire acadien provincial.

The board will consider an application under the Education Act
regarding the number of electoral districts, the boundaries of
those districts and the number of school board members to be
elected from each district in October.

The co-ordinator for the Conseil scolaire acadian provincial has
proposed eight electoral districts and 11 elected school board
members. The number of voters in the proposed districts ranges
from 1,450 in Victoria-Cape Breton to 10,495 in the Halifax area.

In determining the boundaries of the electoral districts, the
Utility and Review Board will consider the effective
representation of the Acadian and francophone communities in the
province; effective representation will be considered of greater
importance than ensuring equal numbers of voters.

Copies of the co-ordinator's proposal are available from the
school board office at 8143 Route 1, Meteghan, N.S., or from the
Utility and Review Board, 1601 Lower Water St., Halifax;
telephone: 902-424-4448.

Those who wish to make their views known but are unable to attend
a hearing may send a letter to the clerk of the board. The
address is Box 1692, Unit M, Halifax, N.S., B3J 3S3;
fax: 902-424-3919, or e-mail: uarb.board@gov.ns.ca
