ECONOMIC RENEWAL AGENCY--ATLANTIC CRAFT TRADE SHOW
-----------------------------------------------------------------

Thousands of Atlantic Canadian crafts will be on display this
weekend for a special audience.

Over 200 exhibitors will be promoting their best craft and
giftware products to buyers from across Canada and the United
States at the 20th Atlantic Craft Trade Show (ACTS), February 1,
2 and 3. The show will be held at the World Trade and Convention
Centre, Halifax.

ACTS presents high quality crafts, giftware and apparel produced
by Atlantic Canadian artisans for wholesale buyers, agents, reps
and distributors in the international marketplace.

"Thanks to shows like this one, Atlantic Canadian crafts are
recognized around the world for their quality and their
distinctiveness," said Economic Renewal Minister Richie Mann.

ACTS exhibitors are professional craftspeople with established
reputations in this diverse and highly competitive industry.
Products on display at this weekend's show include the best in
craftsmanship, from candles to stationery, jewellery to pottery,
from the traditional to the contemporary. Last year,
the show attracted 1500 buyers.

"The craft industry is becoming increasingly important to the
Nova Scotia economy as exports continue to grow in reach and
number," said Mr. Mann. "Crafts bring acclaim to the designers,
enjoyment to the owner, and economic value to the province as an
export."

The Atlantic Canadian craft industry is estimated to be worth
close to $200 million annually.

Besides providing a showcase for regional talent, the Atlantic
Craft Trade Show helps meet the marketing and trade needs of
Atlantic Canadian artisans with seminars and awards.

This wholesale trade show is sponsored by the Nova Scotia
Economic Renewal Agency, the Nova Scotia Department of Education
and Culture, the Newfoundland and Labrador Department of Tourism
and Culture, and the New Brunswick and Prince Edward Island
Departments of Economic Development and Tourism. New Brunswick is
the host province for this year's show.

ACTS 97 opens its doors to the wholesale/retail trade tomorrow
(Saturday) at 10 a.m.
