N.S. SPORT AND RECREATION--OUTDOOR LEADERSHIP PROGRAM

The Nova Scotia Outdoor Leadership Development Program will hold
three outdoor leadership courses during September and October.
The program aims to improve the skills of outdoor leaders by
using a theoretical and practical approach.  

The courses, held in natural environments, are:

Wilderness Ethics, Sept. 19-21, Annapolis River, Annapolis Co.
Develops outdoor leaders' skills in environmental awareness and
wilderness ethics through instruction on minimal impact camping,
improved travelling practices, and the impact of outdoor
recreation on the environment.

Environmental Interpretation and Education, Sept. 26-28,
Sherbrooke Lake Camp, Kings Co.
Develops skills used in interpreting and understanding the
environment through training in flora, fauna and ecology.

First Aid and Continuous Care in the Wilderness, Oct. 17-19, Camp
Kidson, Halifax Co.
Develops skills and attitudes necessary for assessing and
managing injury-related emergencies in the wilderness. Topics
covered include long-term treatment of shock, hypothermia, major
fractures and bleeding in an environment of limited resources.

The leadership program is co-sponsored by the Nova Scotia Sport
and Recreation Commission and the Nova Scotia Outdoor Leadership
Development Committee.
