MARITIME MUNICIPAL TRAINING--MUNICIPAL ELECTION WEBSITE
-----------------------------------------------------------------
The 1997 Nova Scotia municipal election has its own site on the
World Wide Web.

The site --http://www.munisource.org/election --has information
on the Oct. 18 elections to be held in municipalities across the
province.

Visitors to the election site, produced by the Maritime Municipal
Training and Development Board, will find such useful information
as the names and phone numbers of local returning officers,
number of wards and councillors, names of candidates (after
nominations close), as well as official information for voters,
candidates and polling regulations.

The site is well indexed, contains a map of all municipalities,
and has links to online resources of the Nova Scotia Department
of Housing and Municipal Affairs, as well as links to other
important resources for municipal government.

Municipal elections will be held this year in all 55 units except
Halifax Regional Municipality and Region of Queens Municipality.
(Elections for those two units will be held in the year 2000.)
However, school board elections are scheduled for all
municipalities on Oct. 18.

The 1997 municipal election website is a joint effort of the
Department of Housing and Municipal Affairs, the Union of Nova
Scotia Municipalities, the Association of Municipal
Administrators, Nova Scotia, and the Maritime Municipal Training
and Development Board.
