TRANSPORTATION/PUBLIC WORKS--Woods Bridge Opens
-----------------------------------------------------------------
Traffic is moving on the Woods Bridge in Maccan, Cumberland Co.
Guy Brown, Minister of Housing and Municipal Affairs, today
officially opened the new bridge on behalf of Transportation and
Public Works Minister Don Downe.

"This is more than a simple link in this area," said Mr. Brown.
"This state-of-the-art structure offers the people living here
choices they never had before. The new two-lane access enables
the delivery of goods and services to these communities that was
not possible before today."

Mr. Downe said the completion of this project is another example
of his department's commitment to access and service for rural
Nova Scotians.

"Our Better Roads for Nova Scotia campaign this year focused on
rural roads," said Mr. Downe. "We dedicated some $59.5 million to
upgrades and maintenance in rural areas, to provide better links
from our smaller communities to our larger centres. This project
is another example of that commitment. I am very proud of this
achievement."

The $5-million Woods Bridge replaces a temporary structure in
place since 1995 after an inspection team recommended the
original bridge be replaced. The new span was designed by CBCL
Ltd. of Halifax and built by Dexter Construction.

Final paving of the concrete deck was preempted by the premature
arrival of winter conditions. It will be completed next spring.
