Support for individuals

Support helps individuals with losses from Hurricane Fiona.

Support includes:

• $100 for every household that lost power for at least 48 hours to help cover the cost of spoiled food (applications are closed)
• up to $250 for every person that has to pay for tree removal from their property (applications are closed)
• additional support for residents in municipalities where a state of emergency was in effect (because of Hurricane Fiona) to help clear fallen trees and debris that can't be removed in a reasonable timeframe (applications are closed)
• an additional $250 on top of the existing $750 Seniors Care Grant to help with storm repairs
• $150 to all current income assistance recipients, including Disability Support Program participants receiving income support (the additional $150 is processed automatically)
• additional funding for service providers to help people receiving the Essentials Allowance (check with your housing support worker or local shelter for more information about supports available)
• residential property owners and tenants can apply for disaster financial assistance for damage or loss from Hurricane Fiona (applications are closed)
• $1,000 per household in emergency funding for people ordered out of their homes or who can’t return to their homes (funding administered through the Canadian Red Cross; registration is closed)

Small Business Hurricane Relief Program

Applications are closed. Small businesses can apply for a one-time $2,500 grant to help cover the cost of unanticipated business closures from Hurricane Fiona.

Support for agriculture

Farm Emergency Response Grant Program

A one-time grant of $2,500 will be sent to registered farms in Central, Northern and Eastern Nova Scotia that experienced financial losses due to infrastructure or crop damage, livestock loss or extended power outages due to the hurricane. Funding will also be available to registered farms that experienced storm damage outside the most impacted regions.

Fiona Agricultural Disaster Assistance Program

Applications are closed. Farmers can apply for financial assistance to help cover extraordinary operational costs caused by Hurricane Fiona.

On-Farm Electrical Interruption Program

Applications are closed. Farm owners can apply for financial assistance through the Canadian Agricultural Partnership to help offset the cost of installing a backup generator immediately before Hurricane Fiona or during the extended power outages the storm caused.

Support for fisheries and aquaculture

Fiona Aquaculture Disaster Assistance Program

Applications are closed. The Fiona Aquaculture Disaster Assistance Program provides a one-window financial response to help the aquaculture industry recover from Hurricane Fiona.

Support for forestry

Financial assistance for private woodlot owners: Hurricane Fiona

Private woodlot owners can apply for financial assistance through the Association for Sustainable Forestry to help cover the cost of clean up after Hurricane Fiona.
