Prohibition Order for Moose Management Zones 2, 3 and 4

made under Section 21 of the

Wildlife Act

R.S.N.S. 1989, c. 504

N.S. Reg. 193/2024 (effective September 9, 2024)



Whereas subsection 21(1) of Chapter 504 of the Revised Statutes of Nova Scotia, 1989, the Wildlife Act, provides that, notwithstanding anything contained in the Act, the Minister of Natural Resources and Renewables may issue an order prohibiting hunting or a method of hunting in any defined area of the province for a period considered necessary for the proper management of wildlife in that area;


And whereas, notwithstanding the Act and any regulations made under the Act, including Section 4 of the Firearm and Bow Regulations, the Minister considers it necessary for the proper management of moose to prohibit certain methods of hunting bear within specified areas of the Province for a specified period;


Therefore, I hereby order that the possession or use of a rifle, shotgun or muzzleloader for the purpose of hunting bear within the lands designated as Moose Management Zones 2, 3 and 4 of the Province in the Moose Hunting Regulations is prohibited.


Any person who contravenes this order may be liable to prosecution under subsection 21(3) of the Wildlife Act.


This order is effective for the period from the second Monday in September until the Saturday following the first Monday in October, both dates inclusive, in each of the years 2024, 2025 and 2026.
