The photograph was identified by Thomas H. Raddall of Liverpool, who had known Sam Gloade and written about him. Sam Gloade was born 20 April 1878, enlisted and fought in World War I and wears the Distinguished Conduct Medal, the British War Medal and the Victory Medal. [Bruce Ellis, Army Museum, Halifax, to R.
